Damp issues are a significant concern for many properties throughout the United Kingdom and can manifest in various forms. Penetrating damp, often seen in basements and lift pits, occurs when leaking water seeps into the building's walls, typically due to rainfall or a broken water pipe. Rising damp is another common issue that impacts the foundation of your property, caused by moisture vapor being absorbed from the ground. You may recognize this type by the “tide marks” that appear on the lower walls of your building.

All forms of damp can threaten the integrity of your building and can also pose risks to your health. To determine if your property, whether it’s an office, school, hospital, lift pit, or tunnel, is suffering from damp, look for signs such as blistered paint, damaged finishes, or damp patches on the walls or floor. The effects of damp don’t have to compromise your building or your family's health. That's why we provide effective waterproofing solutions, including our specialized tanking systems, to help you combat these issues.

Tanking FAQ’s

What is Tanking

To protect against water penetration, basement tanking systems are the most common waterproofing solutions. We provide three types of tanking: Type A, B, and C. Type A, also known as Barrier Protection, is commonly referred to as 'tanking' and is essential for effective damp proofing.

Are there different types of Tanking?

Yes, there are three types of protection against water ingress: Type B (Structurally Integral) Protection is provided by the structure itself and is essential for effective basement tanking. This type of protection relies heavily on the design and materials used in the external shell of the structure, making it a crucial aspect of damp proofing.

Type C (Drained) Protection involves an appropriate internal water management system, which is one of the most effective waterproofing solutions. This system allows moisture or running water to penetrate the external wall or floor and travel behind the membrane in a controlled drainage system. Type C systems are designed to collect and manage any water ingress by diverting it into a designated safe point of disposal, such as a sump pump or package pump station.

How do you know if an area needs Tanking?

Damp rooms often require basement tanking, especially if they are below ground level. If you notice damp walls, it's crucial to look for signs that indicate you may need tanking. Not only does dampness lead to decorative issues like erupted finishings and blistered plasterwork, but it can also result in a cold home. Implementing effective damp proofing and waterproofing solutions can help mitigate these problems.

What areas are usually subjected to require Tanking?

Below ground level areas such as basements, cellars, or lift-pits are among the top locations where we implement effective basement tanking and damp proofing solutions to ensure reliable waterproofing.

Is Tanking expensive?

Basement tanking is essential for protecting your home from damp. When it comes to your health, there’s no price too high, so we recommend selecting the best damp proofing methods for your property. Understanding the importance of tanking damp rooms not only safeguards your health but also adds value to your home, which is a significant bonus. Although basement tanking may not be inexpensive, it is undoubtedly a worthwhile investment in effective waterproofing solutions.
